Position: Strategic Buyer - Indirect
Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum
Location: Telford
Job Purpose:
As a Strategic Buyer for Indirect goods and services, you will play a crucial role in developing and improving purchasing strategies to align with department objectives, procedures, and company direction.

Key Responsibilities:
- Negotiate effectively with suppliers to secure the lowest total acquisition costs for indirect goods and services while maintaining agreed levels of quality, delivery performance, and customer satisfaction.
- Identify, recommend, and implement cost reduction opportunities in alignment with stakeholders.
- Collaborate with suppliers to establish standards and KPIs, with agreed monitoring and escalation routes.
- Manage and control the ordering process for Stores.
Main Tasks:
- Negotiate costs and terms with suppliers to secure the lowest total acquisition costs for indirect goods and services while maintaining agreed levels of quality, delivery performance, and customer satisfaction.
- Assist department staff in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Identify and recommend suppliers for new and existing requirements to meet cost reduction targets and remove consistently underperforming suppliers.
- Monitor commodity market trends to conduct effective strategic supplier negotiations.
- Assist in drafting purchasing contracts between and new and existing suppliers for consideration and approval.
- Control and improve the ordering process for stores.
- Coordinate and manage the release, progression, and responses to quotations with recommendations and proposals.
General Tasks:
- Manage and implement projects within pre-agreed budgets and timelines.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations in all Company operations.
- Support and liaise with the departmental Manager on personnel issues, including conditions of service, rate of pay, appointments, and terminations, in accordance with our current Company handbook and relevant policies.
- Be accountable for the departments use and maintenance of all plant, building, and equipment.
- Assist with departmental training in all aspects.
- Ensure compliance with SOX and other international standards obtained by MME.
- Assist in the development of continuous improvement and coordination within the department.
- Be responsible for the security of the departments area.
- Address any reasonable requests in accordance with company direction.
Essential requirements
- A Levels minimum
- Experience of working in a busy purchasing department within the manufacturing sector
- Experience of MRP systems
- Experienced negotiator
- Full UK driving license
Desirable
- MCIPS qualified
