Job Opportunity: Principal BESS Engineer

Location: Home Based (UK)

Salary: £70,000 - £80,000 (DOE)

Position Reports to: Head of Engineering UK

Role Overview: We are looking for a Principal BESS Engineer and lead the way in engineering Battery Storage Systems to the highest industry standards. We are in partnership with a company that are at the forefront of solar power and battery storage plant development, construction, and operation. With a presence in multiple countries and a commitment to advancing the energy transition, they are dedicated to creating a sustainable and clean energy future.

Key Responsibilities:

• Engineering Leadership: Lead the engineering of complex and innovative Battery Storage Systems, including co-located projects.
• Quality Assurance: Implement rigorous scrutiny of engineering processes, ensuring designs align with industry, IEC, and national standards.
• Team Coordination: Provide leadership and coordination to the engineering team, emphasizing prioritization, best practices, and value engineering.
• Safety Focus: Ensure that BESS systems prioritize safety in all aspects of design.
• Electrical Engineering: Take responsibility for detailed electrical engineering, including control requirements, component sizing and integration, MV/HV grid interconnection, metering, and more.
• Design Oversight: Produce and oversee electrical designs, including SLDS, wiring schematics, comms/network architecture, equipment sizing, and dimensioning.
• Standardization: Create and maintain standardized engineering procedures for BESS projects.
• Documentation: Produce project documentation for construction and O&M handover, supporting project tender information.
• Supplier Collaboration: Prepare input to suppliers specifications and scope of works for contracting, including component selection.
• Mentorship: Provide support and mentorship to the wider Engineering team to enhance their knowledge of Battery Storage technologies.

Skills Required:

• Qualifications: Degree in electrical engineering with demonstrable utility-scale Battery Storage experience.
• Professional Status: Achieved Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
• Experience: 5+ years in the renewables industry or similar, with a preference for UK solar PV experience.
• Software Proficiency: Proficiency with CAD, ePlan, or equivalent software.
• Control Systems: Experience and understanding of BESS control systems.
• IT Skills: Proficient in IT, including the MS Office suite.
• Language: Fluent in English.
• Personal Qualities: Self-starter with a commitment to self-development and a passion for renewable energy.
• Flexibility: Willingness to travel internationally, including overnight stays.
• International Focus: Desire to work in an international company.
