Design Manager - Multi Utility
Salary: £55,000 - £70,000
Location: Sheffield (Hybrid 3 days in office / 2 days remote)
Overview:
MDE Group UK is proud to be in partnership with one of the UKs leading utility connection providers that specialise in providing multi-utility connections and infrastructure solutions nationwide. Due to their growth, they are now looking for a Design Manager with previous expereince managing a team and working within the utility industry. This is a great opportunity for an individual who is looking to make their next step in management or someone who is looking to work on a high volume of projects with a larger company.

Responsibilities:
- Lead the Design team in assessing the current level of design knowledge. Develop plans to train, support, and mentor individuals, ensuring upskilling where necessary to deliver quotations and design proposals at the highest standards. The design team is currently at 8 people so previous experience managing a team of this size is highly desirable.
- Guide the Design team in comprehending their existing competencies and employ strategies for upskilling to strengthen overall team capabilities.
- Develop and implement an apprenticeship/graduate program to nurture the next generation of Designers. Work closely with candidates, providing 1-2-1 training and mentoring. Assess and monitor their development throughout the scheme.
- Support individuals in both pre-construction and post-acceptance design teams to achieve relevant multi-utility accreditations aligned with business requirements and needs.
- Assist in ongoing business recruitment to augment expertise within the company and expand in-house capabilities.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years experience in producing both design and cost for multi-utility infrastructure.
- A minimum of 5 years experience working closely with individuals and teams to assess skills and develop plans for improvement and upskilling.
- Clear and strong understanding of utility network processes, specifications, and governance.
- Accredited in line with industry requirements.
