Job Role: Head of Design & Engineering (Solar PV & BESS)

Salary Range: £75,000 - £90,000 (Dependent on Experience)

Location: London / Hybrid

Job Overview: As an experienced Head of Design & Engineering, you will play a vital role in supporting the development of our extensive pipeline of large-scale solar and storage projects across the UK. Your responsibilities will be diverse and impactful, ensuring optimal performance and profitability for our utility-scale ground mounted, battery energy storage system (BESS), and large-scale commercial rooftop systems.

Your Responsibilities:

• Design and model utility-scale solar systems, BESS, and commercial rooftops to optimize performance and profitability.
• Produce engineering drawings using design software and AutoCAD for planning applications and feasibility studies.
• Provide technical, design, and engineering support to the wider team during project development.
• Stay up to date with the latest design software, PV and BESS technologies, and UK regulations.
• Understand the supply chain to select appropriate equipment and materials.
• Develop and negotiate technical contracts, including EPC and ICP contracts.
• Attend and contribute to various internal and external meetings, including technical team meetings, development meetings, and investment meetings.
• Contribute to written reports for internal management and external customers.
• Support, coach, and lead other members of the technical team.
• Establish and refine systems and processes to improve commercial and technical oversight of projects.
• Fulfill any other additional roles communicated by the company from time to time.

Qualifications/Experience:

• An electrical engineering degree or a degree in a similar discipline.
• 3-5+ years of experience in the renewable energy sector, specifically in the design and engineering of large-scale solar and BESS projects.
• Strong understanding of PV and BESS system components and their specifications.
• Knowledge of NEC requirements, construction practices, and health & safety.
• Proficiency in design and modelling software, such as PVSyst/PVSol, PVCase, and AutoCAD.
• Ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.
• Strong written and communication skills, with experience in report writing.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
