Responsibilities:
As a Design Engineer, you will play a vital role in supporting the Product Development strategy and driving profitable organic growth.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing product range derivatives, utilizing sound engineering practices while meeting business objectives.
- Applying your product range knowledge and experience to optimize value-added performance characteristics, gaining a competitive advantage.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant engineering standards, legislation, certification, and customer requirements applicable to the product range.
- Compiling engineering and test reports to support design validation.
- Implementing concurrent engineering principles to optimize manufacturing methodology, assembly, and testing processes.
- Utilizing Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) to minimize manufacturing costs and achieve cost targets in collaboration with production engineers.
- Continuously improving the product range through corrective actions, responding to Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) promptly.
- Creating new part numbers and Bills of Materials (BOMs) using the ERP/MRP system.
- Applying lean principles to the engineering environment, promoting efficiency and productivity.
- Providing technical support and product training to production engineering and purchasing teams.
- Developing operating and maintenance manuals for derivative products and assisting marketing and sales teams as needed.
- Undertaking additional duties as required, based on the nature and level of the role.
Essential Criteria:
To succeed in this role, you should meet the following essential criteria:
- Possess a Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification or experience.
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of valve design technologies, including materials, mechanics, engineering mathematics, magnetics, fluid power, corrosion, stress, and thermodynamics.
- Have a strong understanding of modern manufacturing methods, inspection, and assembly techniques within a precision CNC engineering and electronics environment.
- Proficient in relevant engineering software, including 2D and 3D CAD, FEA, CFD, Mathcad, and MS Office, preferably with experience using Autodesk platforms (AutoCAD, Inventor, Ansys).
- Ability to evaluate processes, drive continuous improvement, and identify cost reduction opportunities.
- Excellent time management skills, delivering work efficiently and meeting deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a professional approach.
- Willingness to travel nationally and internationally for professional training or to provide technical support to Sales Engineers.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
Desirable Criteria:
The following criteria are not essential but would be advantageous:
Experience in high-pressure valve design for Nuclear, Oil and Gas, or space industries, including familiarity with certification, customer practices, and regulations.
