Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Engineering Manager to support the Product Development strategy, focusing on valve design, delivering profitable organic growth, and continuous improvement.
- Utilize your expertise in valve design to develop market-leading products, applying sound engineering practices while meeting business objectives.
- Engage with customers during the quotation and pre-production phases to deeply understand their specific valve design requirements and provide them with class-leading technology.
- Apply innovation to valve design, optimizing performance characteristics and functionality to gain a competitive advantage.
- Interpret and apply relevant engineering standards, legislation, certification, and customer compliance requirements specific to valve design.
- Conduct comprehensive design validation activities for valves, including stress calculations, tolerance stack-up analysis, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and other relevant design validation methodologies.
- Apply your significant specialist knowledge in valve technology, certification, or industrial applications to drive successful New Product Development initiatives.
- Take a leadership role in valve design validation and qualification testing, planning research and development efforts, and managing sub-contracted resources.
- Drive concurrent engineering, considering manufacturing methodology, process capability, assembly, testing, and inspection processes specific to valve design.
- Efficiently coordinate project teams to ensure timely release of pre-production valve design project workloads.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to Level 1, 2, and 3 Design Engineers for valve design, ensuring their work meets high-quality standards.
- Implement Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) principles in valve design to minimize manufacturing costs and achieve cost targets, working closely with production engineers.
- Generate detailed instructions for manufacturing, inspection, and R&D testing specific to valve design within the New Product Development process.
- Maintain a strong focus on Lean principles in the valve engineering environment, continuously improving processes and promoting efficiency.
- Deliver technical support and comprehensive product training related to valve design to customers, sales engineers, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to compile Operating and Maintenance Manuals for new and derivative valve products.
Requirements:
Essential:
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification/experience.
- In-depth knowledge of valve design technologies, including materials, mechanics, engineering mathematics, magnetics, fluid power, corrosion, stress, and thermodynamics.
- Strong understanding of fluid power applications, circuit design, component selection, installation methods, performance interactions, and control systems specifically for valves.
- Extensive experience in modern manufacturing methods, inspection, and assembly techniques within a precision CNC engineering and electronics environment, with a focus on valve design.
- Sound understanding of technical risk mitigation, design validation, and qualification methodologies specific to valve design.
- Proficiency in engineering software such as 2D and 3D CAD, FEA, CFD, Mathcad, and MS Office, preferably using Autodesk platforms (AutoCAD, Inventor, Ansys).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective interaction with stakeholders at all levels.
- Exceptional time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, reduce inefficiencies, and meet deliverables promptly.
- Willingness to travel both nationally and internationally to attend professional training opportunities, provide technical support, and deliver product training.
