As the Business Manager (Mechatronic Products), you will be responsible for overseeing the performance of product operations. You will take a hands on approach to work with the team to ensure that the division is meeting its goals and objectives, all while working toward the larger goals of the company as a whole. This a new and expanding area of the business to be grown in-keeping with the Systems integration side of the business with opportunities with existing customers as well as new relationships.
You will develop new strategies for growing the business unit under your responsibility. This might include identifying new markets to enter, generating new business, projects and services to offer, or other initiatives aimed at increasing revenue or market share. You will take ownership for sizing of projects and project delivery.
This is both a technical and operational responsible role with P&L and budget responsibility over the function.i.e 50% Engineering 50% Commercial
Key Responsibilities
Strategic
- Establish goals and objectives for the business unit, then measure performance against those goals.
- Make sure that the business unit has adequate staff, equipment, facilities, and other resources to accomplish its goals
- Develop and implement new business, projects and services that meet customer needs or changing existing offerings to meet changing market conditions
- Conduct market research studies to identify potential new customers or new uses for existing products or services
- Holding P&L responsibility and tasked with monitoring the progress of ongoing projects to ensure that they are on schedule and within budget
- Build and maintain relationships with business partners
- Coordinate with other departments within the organisation to ensure that products or services meet customer needs
Pre-Sale
- Formulate proposals and quotations along with technical product support to external & internal parties when required with a Mechatronic Approach.
- Prepare technical quotations and specifications, including estimating resources and costing of equipment required.
- Liaise regularly with external parties to ensure effective and timely delivery of products / projects.
- Communicate with internal departments, ensure products/projects meet scheduled delivery times.
- Size and selection of mechatronic solutions.
- Must have an understanding and be able to communicate 2D & 3D mechanical drawings to suppliers & customers.
- Manage and control of the product quotation/tendering process from start to finish.
Post-Sale
- Responsible for all project management for the Product business.
- Comfortable overseeing a number of on-going projects at any one time.
- Trouble shoot technical issues when they arise and escalate as necessary.
- Provide technical support to customers.
- Work as part of a team or alone with senior guidance as required.
- Monitor and control stage payments for customer contracts.
- Manage product business in iconnect (ERP system).
- Manage invoicing and debt chasing escalations.
- Chair monthly product business review meetings.
- Product business reporting.
- Drive product business process improvements.
- Comply with all Company procedures and standards as defined in various documents including the Quality Manual, Staff Manual and Health & Safety Manual.
- Other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Required
- Degree or HNC / HND in relevant Mechanical Engineering discipline and 5-years experience at managing level.
- Possess strong problem solving and inter-personal skills.
- Able to size gearboxes and electrical motors.
- Good all-round mechanical knowledge essential.
- Previous Mechatronic experience is essential.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly computer literate.
- Be pro-active in supporting other company activities.
- Exceptional customer facing skill, deal professionally, competently, and courteously with customers.
