Maintenance Team Leader/Supervisor

Location: Birmingham
Salary/Wage: £40,000 - £50,000 + £2,500 shift allowance
Working hours: Continental 4 on 4 off

Purpose:
Assist with managing the maintenance teams day-to-day workload to achieve departmental targets and provide an effective and efficient service. Coordinate and oversee the teams workloads, monitor any issues, and ensure that quality standards, targets, and KPIs are met. Foster a culture of continuous improvement in the team and provide leadership and line management. Develop individual performance and support requirements to achieve high standards while emphasizing working safely. Outcomes are reviewed by the organizational head, and decisions and results impact the functions success and image.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program robots and PLCs
  • Maintain and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems and equipment
  • Manage maintenance projects and run an efficient maintenance operation that fulfills operational and customer demand and meets set targets
  • Ensure the safety of individuals impacted by any maintenance activity
  • Work in accordance with the companys quality requirements
  • Diagnose breakdowns and repair equipment timely to maximize availability
  • Conduct scheduled planned preventative maintenance to minimize unplanned downtime
  • Record and document all work carried out on both paper and electronic systems
  • Analyze issues to identify root cause and develop countermeasures, improvement actions, and/or suggestions for improvement
  • Control and source maintenance tools, equipment, and spares
  • Document breakdowns and identify root cause and remedial action to help resolve recurring issues
  • Maintain high standards of tidiness and organization in line with good 5S practice
  • Work in accordance with mandatory requirements of Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements
  • Write reports and present progress at project meetings
  • Ensure quality control of work by appropriate reviews
  • Apply specific technical skills as required to support expediting issues quickly to minimize downtime
  • Conduct benchmarking studies to determine best practices
  • Plan longer-range projects, track and complete projects on time within budget, with critical impact on objectives and goals
  • Manage activities of a complex nature
  • Lead the development of innovative solutions to unique problems
  • Undertake continuous training and development
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems
  • Identify and deploy the technical skill sets, resource levels, and systems to deliver projects, including engaging external resources as required.
  • To meet Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), adhere to the overall plan and manage/report on it.
  • Conduct risk assessments of departmental processes and tasks.


Management of People

  • Collaborate with the team and other departments to develop efficient maintenance strategies, procedures, and techniques
  • Coordinate with Production and Quality departments to ensure that the highest build quality is achieved after any maintenance work and throughout equipments life cycle
  • Effectively lead a team of maintenance technicians/engineers, ensuring smooth workflow with maximum output by working with managers and colleagues
  • Provide feedback to the management team to share ideas and improve operation, recommending, supporting, and implementing continuous improvement activities, process and procedure improvements to optimize results, and improve the quality of delivery in line with company and customer requirements
  • Ensure an effective interface is maintained with other departmental staff
  • Provide technical expertise to the team
  • Control and organize the teams daily work schedule to achieve targets set
  • Delegate tasks to the team to ensure maximum effectiveness
  • Monitor the teams performance, attendance, and disciplinary issues
  • Identify areas of development within the team to achieve a flexible and responsive team that can support customer demands
  • Train team members and broader organization members where appropriate
  • Motivate and coach the team to operational success
  • Monitor task completion, performance, and record on appropriate systems
  • Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member understands the standards and behaviors expected of them
  • Liaise and communicate with other departments, customers, suppliers, and other service providers
  • Manage on-site contractors to ensure compliance with legal and company requirements.

Qualifications and Experience Levels:

  • A Levels, ONC, City & Guilds level 3, BTec National Diploma Level 3, IVQ Technician Diploma, NVQ3
  • Professional accreditation with an industry-related body would be advantageous
  • Completed a recognized indentured apprenticeship in maintenance management
  • Experience of working with facilities management
  • Mechanical, electrical, electronic, or software background with a working knowledge of the other disciplines
  • Substantial experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment, preferably automotive
  • Commercial understanding of the impact of failure/downtime on production and ultimately customer delivery
  • FLT reach license
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques and recognized QC (Quality Control) tools
  • Awareness of Health & Safety legislation, including ISO14001 and responsibilities
  • Knowledge of Quality standard TS16949
