Tooling Engineer - Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands

Role: Tooling Engineer

Salary: Up to £40,000

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 08:00-16:30 core hours (can be flexible if required)

Location: Water Orton

MDE are looking for an experienced Tooling Engineer to join a leading moulding facility in the Birmingham area.

This is an exciting role where the successful person will be responsible for the injection mould tool, from design through manufacture and into production.

You will also have involvement in the DFM and tool design stage, progression of tool manufacture and updating timing plans, customer liaison, reviewing inspection strategy and reports, communication of actions from tool trials and working with all relevant manufacturing departments are all required in this position.

Responsibilities:

• Reviewing part designs to highlight tooling and manufacturing issues
• Support tool quoting from external suppliers
• Liaison with all manufacturing departments to ensure the tool design meets relevant criteria for full volume production
• Liaison with customers to highlight and resolve technical issues with the part
• Review part inspection strategy with the customer and internal departments
• Update tool timing plans to highlight any issues and propose recovery plans if required
• Review part graining specifications and liaise with graining suppliers
• Review initial inspection reports and decide on the scope of any corrective actions
• Ensure revised part specifications are logged, reviewed and implemented and records updated accordingly

Essential Skills:

• Read and interpret engineering component drawings
• Understand complex injection mould tool designs in 2D and 3D
• Liaise effectively with suppliers, colleagues and customers to communicate technical information
• Experience of injection mould toolmaking
• To be organized and able to work in a structured manner

Essential Experience:

• Toolmaker experience
• Knowledge of the injection mould process and tooling
• Investigate tooling issues and determine the root cause and communicate the necessary corrective actions
• Carry out design for manufacture reviews of moulded parts
