Role: Tooling Design Engineer
Salary: Up to £40,000
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 08:00-16:30 core hours (can be flexible if required)

MDE are looking for an experienced Tool Designer to join a leading moulding facility in the Birmingham area.
You will be responsible for injection mould tool design for internal manufacture and oversea external tooling design, advise customers on designing components suitable for the plastic injection moulding process and ensure suitability for tooling manufacture.
A challenging role where you will be required to work under your own initiative and work independently as well as part of a team to ensure that tooling standards are maintained and best quality products can be produced.
Role responsibilities:
- To support sales with design/tooling queries and to provide technical support at customer meetings
- To assist in obtaining and reviewing new tool quotations
- To quote new tooling and modifications for Tool room in conjunction with Tool room management
- On Gateway 1 or receipt of purchase order to provide a tooling DFM to the customer.
- On Gateway 1 or receipt of purchase order to prepare tooling go documents and send to toolmaker
- To assess sub-contract tooling G.A.s with manufacturing and engineering
- To design in house or manage sub-contract tool design for in house manufacturing
- To support tooling engineers with technical information and support gateway 2
- To support N.P.I. with design and technical advice on tooling issues or customer queries
- To support TPM Team with tooling information
- To liaise engineering to ensure tooling is suitable for automation
- Maintaining company objectives on quality, delivery and environmental policies
- Knowledge of injection moulding processes and machine inputs. Outputs
- Good time keeping and attendance
Essential Experience:
- Design experience of complex moulding tools i.e. hot runners, insert tooling etc.
- Tool design experience within the plastic injection mould
- Apprentice trained or HNC qualified in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
- Experience in reading 2D & 3D mould designs using CAD systems
