Project Planner - Job Description
Department: Planning/Operations
Reports to: Planning Manager
Role summary
The Project Planner is someone who works to develop, produce, and update project plans and schedules as well as appropriate planning procedures, manuals, and processes using relevant software to ensure effective and easy implementation of the project programmes to improve the service delivery of the Business.
This role is based at our Bristol office.
The Planner reports directly to the Planning Manager and interfaces with the Project Delivery Team.

Role Specifics:
- Prepare project plan and schedule from Employer requirements and other technical documents.
- Review project plans and creates a logical sequence of activities and interdependencies to correctly schedule project programmes.
- Review existing plan/programme to align with the business programme philosophy and best practice.
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities within the planning team and the implement improvement s to the project schedule templates.
- Liaise with the Project Managers, Engineering Design team, and Site teams to update the different aspects of the project programme.
- Prepare weekly and Monthly reports when needed.
- Analyse third-party plans and incorporate them into the main work plan.
- Carry out quality checks on plans and schedules to ensure compliance with best practice.
- Manage the interdependencies of project workflow in an organised manner to remove blockers.
- Monitor programme workflows and raise early warnings notices for identified risks.
- Create specific reports for use to report and monitor project progress.
- Maintain or modify existing dynamic and specific dashboards to monitor and report project progress.
- Prepare general and specific workflows for different projects and processes.
- Support the implementation of the project plans and schedules to meet contractual requirements (milestones) and targets with cost savings.
- Forecast resource needs.
- Assist the tendering team in developing project plans and schedules when required.
- Initiate the escalation of missed and slipped tasks that affect milestone payments.
- Follow up on Internal and External collaborators on task delivery.
- Assist the Planning Manager to develop manuals, processes, and procedures for the implementation of the new project management processes.
- Support other departments and carry out other duties as and when business requirements dictate as may be reasonably expected by the line manager.
Person specification
Essential criteria:
- A degree in engineering is preferable.
- A minimum of 4 years of Experience working as a Planner.
- A minimum of 3 years of Experience working using planning software within the energy or utility or HV industry or other similar roles.
- Sound knowledge of Project Life Cycle Management.
- Sound knowledge of Project Risk Management.
- Working knowledge of Planning Software, specifically Smartsheet, MS Project, Excel,
- Excellent level of IT skills including Microsoft Office Suit, SharePoint, and Outlook.
- Possess excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
- Can demonstrate working and interfacing with clients and other project stakeholders on a project.
- Highly organised with an ability to prioritise workload.
- Excellent attention to detail with an eye for accuracy.
- Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and always maintain confidentiality.
Desirable criteria:
- Working knowledge of Programme/portfolio management and Contract management
- Ability to write advanced formulas in excel.
- Ability to effectively problem solve and think outside the box.
