Field Service Engineer / O&M technician - Solar

Salary: £30,000 - £40,000

Location: Cornwall

An opportunity has arisen for a Field Service Engineer in Cornwall for a leading O&M service provider in the UK & EU. My client operates in ground mounted PV systems, with a portfolio of over 260MW in the UK. The scope of work consists of the execution of routine maintenance activities on all electrical (modules, inverters, AC boxes) and mechanical components (module mounting system, fence and gate), as well as of the communication and monitoring equipment and surveillance system.

You must have expertise in DC electrical systems as well as experience installing and maintaining electrical systems at industrial sites. It would be ideal to have prior experience with or technical knowledge of high voltage and photovoltaic systems. It is necessary to have good manual dexterity and confidence when using multimeters and insulation testers, among other fundamental electrical tools.

Main responsibilities of a field service engineer / O&M technician:

• Visual inspection activities, cleaning and report to management team;
• Routine maintenance activities on modules, inverters, cables and connectors, DC and AC distribution boxes;
• Routine maintenance activities on module mounting systems, fence and gates, inverter and transformer stations (excluding equipment);
• Routine maintenance activities on monitoring and communication equipment (data logger, routers, sensors, );
• Routine maintenance activities on security system devices (cameras, barriers, );
• Fault finding on electrical components by means of visual inspections or professional site measurement activities (thermal imaging, insulation tester, );
• Execute corrective measures to keep the system available;
• Engage and manage subcontractors;
• Called to perform reactive and corrective maintenance activities as well as, from time to time to manage subcontractors and control quality of activities performed.

Skills and qualifications

• At least three years working experience in the installation and maintenance of electrical systems for industrial sites;
• Experience in the photovoltaic business is a plus;
• Good knowledge of MS office tools;
• Valid and clean car driving license;
• NVQ Level 3 electrical certification
