If you have 8–10 years of experience working on power plants, substations, renewable energy projects, BESS, desalination plants, or similar electrical projects, this role could be for you!
Experience with SAS, SCADA, RTU, and IEC 61850-based substation automation systems is also a plus.
Requirements and Skills:
- Understanding of MV, LV, HV, and EHV protection and control systems, including relay coordination and protection system design.
- Strong knowledge of numerical protection relays from leading manufacturers such as SEL, ABB, Siemens, Schneider, GE, Hitachi, or equivalent.
- Ability to read and interpret SLDs, protection and metering diagrams, SLM&R, schematic diagrams, and vendor drawings.
- Practical experience with telecommunication systems used in power plants and substations, including fiber optic communication, Ethernet networks, PCM/MUX, DDF/MDF, MPLS-TP, and related communication interfaces.
- Experience reviewing communication architecture and network topology, including communication protocols and interfaces with National Grid, NLDC, SCADA/EMS, and utility control centers.
- Hands-on experience with SAS, SCADA, RTU, and IEC 61850-based substation automation systems.
- Registered or Chartered Engineer status, or an equivalent professional certification, is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead protection, control, automation and telecommunication activities across power plants, substations, renewable energy, BESS, desalination and other electrical projects.
- Select and define technical specifications for protection, control, metering and telecommunication equipment.
- Provide technical guidance on protection schemes, relay coordination, substation automation and telecom systems.
Review protection studies, fault analysis, relay settings, protection philosophies and schemes for generators, transformers, busbars, feeders, motors and transmission lines. - Review and coordinate SAS, SCADA, RTU, IEC 61850 and protection communication systems.
- Review telecommunication system designs, including fiber optics, Ethernet, DDF/MDF, PCM/MUX, MPLS-TP and grid control center interfaces.
- Review technical specifications, vendor proposals, drawings and engineering documents to ensure compliance with project, grid code and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate technical interfaces between owners, consultants, designers, OEMs, suppliers and other disciplines.
- Provide support during installation, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting when required.
- Contribute to technical improvements, lessons learned and knowledge sharing within the engineering team.
