Technical Safety Engineer

What will your responsibilities be?

  • We are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Safety Asset Discipline Engineer for a consultancy assignment of one year, with the possibility of adjustment, in the Asset Integrity & Maintenance Team for one of our operated offshore assets.
  • In our operating model, the asset team is end-to-end accountable for technical and operational integrity, including barrier management, across all time horizons and in compliance with regulations and our management system.
  • The discipline engineers in the team are multi-skilled, have close-to-full-time allocation to the asset, and are supported by the Portfolio Engineering team and subject matter experts for specialist and complex tasks.
  • This is a senior role: the consultant will be expected to take full ownership of technical safety on the asset from day one, with minimal onboarding.
  • As Senior Technical Safety Asset Discipline Engineer you will be the asset's day-to-day point of contact for technical safety.
  • You are responsible for the technical safety equipment on the asset and the associated performance standards, and for ensuring that barriers are maintained, monitored and followed up in line with the risk picture.
  • You will be followed up by the Technical Safety & Barrier Management department, which provides peer support and quality assurance.
  • Provide day-to-day technical safety support to the asset team and the offshore organisation.
  • Own and follow up technical safety equipment and associated performance standards (e.g. fire and gas detection, emergency shutdown, firewater and deluge, passive fire protection, ignition source control, escape, evacuation and lifesaving equipment).
  • Monitor barrier status, follow up degraded barriers and define robust compensating measures to maintain the safety level.
  • Assess risk related to deviations, dispensations, temporary changes and reduced functionality of equipment, and handle cases in the relevant tools (e.g. Synergi).
  • Follow up test and maintenance results for safety-critical equipment, including offshore participation in firewater and deluge tests, and contribute to performance standard compliance verification.
  • Provide technical safety input to management of change, modifications and work orders, and participate in or facilitate HAZID, HAZOP and design reviews.
  • Contribute to updates of risk analyses (TRA/QRA) and emergency preparedness analyses, and follow up resulting actions and assumptions in operation.
  • Interface with Portfolio Engineering, technical safety SMEs, barrier management advisors and other disciplines, and support audits and supervisory activities from the authorities.

What qualifications and personal qualities are we looking for?

  • MSc or BSc in engineering (e.g. safety, process, mechanical or similar).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience within technical safety, of which at least 5 years from technical safety in operations of offshore installations, preferably on the Norwegian continental shelf.
  • Good knowledge of the Norwegian regulations (Havtil) and relevant standards, e.g. NORSOK S-001, ISO 13702, IEC 61508/61511 and Offshore Norge Guideline 070.
  • Proven experience with barrier management in operation, including ownership of performance standards, follow-up of degraded barriers and definition of compensating measures.
  • Fluent in Norwegian and English, written and spoken.
  • Documented ability to work independently and take full ownership of technical safety for an operating asset from day one, without an extended onboarding period.
  • Valid offshore safety course and health certificate, or willingness to obtain them, and willingness to travel offshore.
  • Desirable experience: Experience with risk-based deviation handling and management of change in an operator organisation.
  • Desirable experience: Knowledge of NORSOK Z-013 and use of risk analysis results in decision-making.
  • Desirable experience: Familiarity with SAP, Synergi and digital barrier status tools.
  • Desirable experience: Experience from FPSO or production installations on the Norwegian continental shelf.
  • Desirable experience: Experience as discipline engineer or technical safety responsible in an operator's asset or operations organisation.
  • Experienced and confident, with the credibility to make and justify technical safety decisions independently in a busy operational environment.
  • Communicates clearly with offshore personnel, discipline engineers and management alike.
  • Proactive and collaborative, with a genuine interest in safety and continuous improvement.
  • Please find the following temporary position at client. We request that you submit candidates by 12 noon on Friday, 20 November 2026.
  • Job Level: Sr Professional.
